DZ

DZ's production's are amazing. I first found out about him through Dean Tynan sending me a bunch of ideas for massive dubstep tunes. The first track that captured my attention was DZ's "Down" the bassline was so massive and the movement was so cool that I wanted to hear it to a 4x4 beat for fun. So I started editing and within a couple hours I was done with my refix of "Down". I told Dean later that night that I had edited one of the dubstep tunes he was telling me about into a 4x4 tune, he replied "please tell me you did DZ - Down"...

Supra1

Supra1 is from Poland(which I've heard from Dean Tynan has an amazing club scene) and makes amazing dubstep and bass house. They won a Trouble & Bass remix competition a while back remixing Little Jinder's "Polyhedron" into a synth heavy, pounding dubstep track, which I edited a couple months ago for my first refix mix and is still one of my favorite refixes to play to this day.

And check out Supra1's new remix of Drop The Lime's "Devil Eyes" up on there myspace player.

Zion I Remixes

Tony and I made some remixes for Zion I Remix Competition on Keep Real. We couldn't figure out what we wanted to do dubstep or bassline so we did both.

Flufftronix

Flufftronix has been making dope music for a couple years now. I first heard about him from his edit of Bodycrash, which everybody was dropping a year and half ago. Now we share the same home in SubDivision.

Lately Flufftronix has been making some dope dubstep tunes. Go check out his myspace site and his yet to be released track "Filthy Angels" for some freshness.

Dean Tynan

Dean Tynan is a good friend of mine, we are both very like-minded. He dropped some garage knowledge on me and I promised him caramel corn(I swear you're gonna get it!). So I'm a little biased but trust me when I tell you Dean is here to stay.

Recently Southern Fried dropped a A1 Bassline track "We Love Pussy" featuring Dean. Go to Beatport.com and cop that cause it's an amazing club track with dope builds that works everytime.

Vaski

My homie Vaski has been making some cuts lately. I featured one of his tracks from Excision's Rottun Recordings for my second refix mix but honestly, I could refix and play every track Vaski's made. Sometimes I scratch my head by the sounds he makes, wondering how did he do that???

Look out for a Vaski Remix of Tony Rocky Horror's "Subatron" coming out in early 2010 on Sub Philo Music.

Bassnectar

I'm a big fan of Bassnectar. I've been loving his dubstep for a while. For my first refix mix I edited his track "Heads Up" which quickly became one of my favorite refixes to play.

Bassnectar's new album "Cozza Frenzy" just dropped in stores on October 27th. An album 3 years in the making with multiple collaborations including a track with Zumbi from Zion I.

Keith Babinec

I've been really getting into some melody driven tough dubstep action lately. Sometimes its hard to find good tracks of that nature. Yesterday I felt lucky when Keith Babinec sent me one of his new tracks, "Heat", a dope tune with a cool electro tinged build up in the middle and sinister lead synths throughout. Check it out yo!

Lookout for collborations with Tony Rocky Horror and a upcoming remix release on Sub Philo Music.

Excision

Excision is one of North America's best dubstep producers, his sound quality is impeccable and futuristic. His tracks make me think of Bladerunner or THX 1138. Excision also runs two labels, Rottun Recordings and Ex7 Music which always has releases in the beatport dubstep top ten.

Last Japan has been doing big things recently from playing at the Ministry Of Sound to remixing Brodinski and Diplo for Southern Fried. A couple weeks ago Bullet Train Records released his "Reverse This" EP(which can be found at Beatport) featuring my dubstep remix and remixes from my homies Dean Tynan and Tony Rocky Horror. Its a big release and is definitely worth checking out(I play all the remixes in my sets).

Bryx

Bryx is a producer & dj from Nelson BC, Canada. He contacted me a bit ago about my refixes and we've been sending promos back and for the for the past couple of months. He sent me this track a month ago and I instantly liked it for the good use of the DJ Quik samples and the matching bassline. Bryx and his friends help with Shambala, an exciting electronic music festival in Canada that started in 1998, and has turned into one of Northern Amercia's most popular music festivals.

Sean and Dev

The best time I ever had djing was with my brother, Sean. We played on 4 turntables together a lot and every time it always felt special. We djed around each other so much we both knew each other's records like we knew our own. I usually knew what he was gonna play and probably vice-versa. We both had a similar style but on occasion he would pull me into a deeper direction than I would normally find myself at and I would push him to be more playful. We both helped each other grow as djs and equally kept each other in check.

heres a couple of mixes (I will find more Sean and Dev mixes and post them soon)

Mixes

When it gets down to it; its really all about the mix... How a track plays verses other tracks is really whats sets apart good club tracks from great club tracks. When I produce I try to think about how it will flow into something else, the ease of that transition.

Here are most of the mixes I could find. I have more that I recorded in my house days but they are on actual tapes (I have to record them at some point cause a lot of them are really good). I worked hard on most of these mixes, editing each track to fit with the next. The only mix that wasn't made this way was the 2 hour vinyl mix that I am very proud of. As a bonus I added a Mini Mix I made for The Vortex on c89.5FM.

LA was dope!

Just got back from a two day trip to Los Angeles. I played "Monster Mash" with my homies NoNewYork from San Francisco, and Cease & De Clash from LA. The show was intense with a good turn out by 9:30 and by 11:30 it was a packed warehouse with nearly 700 kids. The lights were intense and the sound system had weight. LA knows what they're doing.

This is a edit I made a while back. its beeperless....

Just Say NoNewYork

NoNewYork are homies from SF. Sub Philo Music will be releasing their Dancehall Blues EP soon with remixes by Dev79, Bombaman and myself. The three tracks they made for this ep are back and forth bassline and dubstep; headnodding and bouncy at the same time. The ep is being mixed and mastered as I write this by my friend Slade Templeton from Defunct.

This next remix was collab with Commodore 69 (formally known as Nitsuj). Who I was a huge fan of when I was growing up. He co-founded the legandary 360 BPM Crew with Zacharia and was a huge influence on the birth of drum and bass in Seattle in the late 90s. I used to record his mixes off the radio (89.9 KGRG) and listen to them on repeat.

Why Are We Waiting???

I started djing in 1997. Early on I was influenced by Derrick Carter, Jeno, Doc Martin, and DJ Sneak. I loved it all from Chicago to Minimal techno. A lot of my early tracks as I got back into house music after a 5 year hiatus into hip hop production had a feel of that early hard and Chicago house style. I was listening to a lot of the early Count and Sinden tracks and got heavily obessed with dance style production again. At one point I started experimenting with making rock style house music.

This remix of Canadian indie rock band These Electric Lives was made/released on itunes in 2007/2008.

I like refixes, my wrist does not...

I've been doing these refixes for a while now. Kinda just for fun; a thing to do when I don't have enough energy to make beats but still want to work on music. When I made the first refix mix I clicked the mouse so much I inflamed my wrist for several months, my wrist would burn when it would be at that horizontal hanging angle to control a mouse. For a couple weeks my girlfriend even helped me navigate through refixing tracks.

At the height of the pain I had the idea to refix house into dubstep(again for fun). These were the first two out of three I made(the other being a dubstep refix of Federico Franchi - Cream; which is on its way).

Last night I was tired from working a super involved wedding and couldn't work on any music. So I trawled youtube looking for new tracks and radio rips. I found one video entitled DZ Down lvis Dubblestep Remix. After listening to it for 30 seconds I realized it was my refix and that Rusko was playing it & filling in for Mary Ann Hobbs on BBC Radio 1... respect to DZ, Rusko, Mary Ann Hobbs and BBC Radio 1!
